Nadine must have jerked herself back when Sander appeared in the frame of the deck doors because he smirked, and Rexie grinned too widely, ducking around to get another gin and tonic. His arms pushed against the doorway, like Samson, his unwashed hair curled around his ears, his armpits, too.




Jackie Davis Martin teaches part-time at City College in San Francisco. Having taught high school most of her life, her head swims with literature of the past while she pursues--and tries to make-- literature of the present.
