Bridge Tender’s Blunder by Paula Ray
It was a typical Memorial holiday, as happy families flocked to the beach, but Martin, the bridge tender, knew he was in for the summer from hell, when he heard the sail snap in the iron jaws of the bridge and someone yell, “We’ve found our weapon of mast destruction!”

Paula Ray lives three miles from a drawbridge that ate the mast of a tourist's sailboat. She has since developed an irrational fear of drawbridges and has consequently been stuck on the island for a year now. Chinese take out and pizza delivery are her salvation.
